Messy Messy Messy

Since I'm in the "being babied" phase of my training, I did the wrong thing and got fat. By the time the week for Brooklyn Half rolled around, everything jiggled.  Apparently, unlike a certain historian runner, I don't learn from my past mistakes.

So here goes.

Monday 5/13
I had my period.  I was going to crank out some 6 miles to get rid of the jiggles, but I could barely do 4 miles on the treadmill before everything hurt.  Damn.  Sucks being a chick.  To top it off, the spin class this night was taught by a sub.  I only got out a cup of sweat as opposed to 5 cups.

Tuesady 5/14
Going with the fat theme, I decided to sleep in the AM, and did core work at lunch.
PM:  Faster Finishe Week 9.  Bigelow Baggins BEAT ME.  That little troll (?) is getting faster.  I see a little budding red bib in the making.

Wednesday 5/15
I slept in again as I was stressed out about getting up at 4AM to go to Brooklyn Half.  Decided that I needed as much sleep as I can...I literally didn't do anything until the evening.  Coach Terry said to do eliptical, but opted for a easy run with Miss Cho in Prospect Park after the dreaded BK Half Bib Pick Up Trip.  Didn't bring Garmin becasuse I was afraid Coach Terry will beat me up.  Every white bike I saw in Prospect Park looked like Coach Terry...

Thursday 5/16
AM:  Pilates Class.  This class is probably the hardest Pilates class.  Surprisingly, there is a lot or runners in this class.  A guy in an IM Finisher Shirt is stiffer than I am, so I don't feel too bad.
PM:  Another illegal run.  Trying to get rid of the jiggles.  It's not working.

Friday 5/17
AM:  Shake Up Run.  Yep, another attempt at jiggle free body.  I need to learn that it takes a while to do this and that running aimlessly and continuously might perhaps...not work.

Saturday 5/18
Surprisingly, the 30,000 field BK Half was smoother than I thought.  It did take 10 minutes to get to the starting line and it did take 30 minutes to get to the port-a-potty, but otherwise, not so bad.  I set my bar real low for this.  Aiming to "not walk" was my goal.  And whaddyaknow?  I didn't. Not my fastest or best effort, but I think it was mission accomplished.  Everything still jiggled, though.  Need some work.

Sunday 5/19
Optional Recovery Run.  Whenever it's otpional, it's mandatory.

My goal, really, is to just get back in runner shape.  Right now, I'm tubby, jiggly and not so good. I was not exactly in good shape during Boston, so I don't have any buffer to fatten up.  I don't want to end up in Athena Class.  Really.

And I'm Out of Shape (Again)

Monday 5/6
AM:  I did a 6M run on the treadmill.  8:48, 8:48, 8:27, 8:27, 8:00, 8:00.  It felt good although I felt the looming period...
Lunch:  Stretched out a bit, worked on shin/calf, did mostly upper body work.
PM:  Spin with Matthew.  He's looking more and more like a mountain man...

Tuesday 5/7
Lunch:  Pilates.  I slept in the AM.
PM:  Faster Finish Week 8.  Caterpillar runs are fun and all, but it does feel a bit too easy.  It's my favorite, as a result.

Wednesday 5/8
AM:  Midweek MidMile.  For the record, it was pouring rain, right when I started to run and it promptly stopped 20 mintues after I had completed this workout.  Mile 4 & 5 were to be marathon pace.  I think I hit it close enough, considering I had to almost swim instead of run.  My shoes remained damp for 2 days.
Funny - Jean Claude Garmin freaked out in the rain at first, before giving up like I did.
Lunch:  Pilates.  The Wednesday class at Equinox is good, but the instructor is going to change the class to some martial arts based "Knockout Pilates".
PM:  Deep Water Run.  Just because this morning "swim" wasn't enough.

Thursday 5/9
REST DAY!  Hurray!  Took the train with Lisa to pick up my bib for this weekend.  We were planning to run, but the weather was iffy.

Friday 5/10
AM:  Track work.  I hate track work. I especially hate it now that I don't have Coach Terry counting laps.  I seem to lose a lap during the workout.  This was harder than I liked it to be.  My all out 400m is about 1:40-1:37.  I had to put in full effort today to hit target pace of 1:45.  This was sure sign of things to come this weekend...
PM:  Because I felt so crummy at track, I threw in an Illegal Run of 5Ms.  I was going to do 6, but being illegal and all, didn't have the guts to do all 6.  Felt a little better.

Saturday 5/11
Another Rest Day.  Waist is expanding...

Sunday 5/12
Japan Day Race.  I was told to "let it rip" so I went out too fast, too soon, and my body couldn't deal with the humidity, the pace, everything.  I had to walk once, cough bugs out once, and had probably the slowest 4M race since 2011.  I haven't been over 30 minutes in like forever. Not happy about it.
Post Race Run.

And I got my period the next day.

Quiet Before The Storm

This past weekend was supposed to be my reward for Boston Marathon, but I ended up getting Montezuma's Revenge and wasn't too happy during my trip.

Saturday 4/27 & Sunday 4/28
Tulum run on Paila Road.  The road is actually the "back road" to all the inns and resorts on this stretch and with many of them being fenced off with foliage, it's a bit like running in the jungle.  The road is narrower than any of the "drives" in Central Park, so between me, cars, trucks and cyclists, it was a bit of a traffice jam.
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/305424356 & http://connect.garmin.com/activity/305424342  I'm actually amazed that I started these two runs exactly the same time - 7:03AM.  It was already hot and humid by then.
I got a preview of what is to come in the next few weeks here in NYC.  Ugh. 5AM call times at Central Park to beat the heat.

Monday 4/29
Monday was traveling day and off day.  I came back more exhausted than I left.  drats.

Tuesday 4/30
AM:  Started the day off eager to see if my legs were still there.  4M on the treadmill.  8:48, 8:48, 8:00, 8:00.  Yep.  They still work!
PM:  Faster Finish Week 7.  It was the baby Cat Hill Repeats.  I like to do full repeats, but beggars can't be choosers.  I'm sure there will be more full repeats along the way.  Incline paces were 6:49, 6:42, 6:53, 6:48, 6:45, 6:24 (?!), 6:48 and 7:04.  When I did this last cycle (2/26/2013)  I was much slower.  So I got all excited only to be told that it's probably because I had some rest.

Wednesday 5/1
We're in May, baby.  Just a few more weeks until things get grindy...
AM:  Slept in.  ZZZZ.
Lunch:  Pilates.  Flabby gut needs work.
PM:  6 Easy Miles. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/306452241 I tried really hard to real myself in.  I had to do this no faster than 8:45, but ended up faster.

Thursday 5/2
The schedule said ELIPTICAL of all things.  After being on it for 15 minutes, decided that I have to be severely injured to enjoy this thing...Did illegal run with Lisa.  Easy 4M on West Drive, only to be punished with a poop attack.  Go figure.

Friday 5/3
AM:  Lonely track workout.  Although some guy decided to race me at one point, so I had to put it down.
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/306979114  Result was lost count of lap numbers, and ended up with one too many.  Some where along the week, I did some dead lifts, which left a deep gluet pain...

Saturday 5/4
It was supposed to be a rest day, but I considered my chances at Central Park.  There were events on both weekends, one being Revlon Walk/Run (Saturday) and the other being 32K Amateur Cyclist Day (Sunday).  I'm normally OK with cyclists as long as they know what they are doing.  I trust those Aliens.  But these wannabe Aliens, not so much.  In fact, last year, one nearly crashed into me on Harlem Hills.  Therefore the Sunday run went on Saturday.  http://connect.garmin.com/activity/307567878 and http://connect.garmin.com/activity/307567888.  Long story on why it's in two parts.

Sunday 5/5
After having a rather heavy dinner the night before with "Flannagan", I decided that I should sweat it out.  Illegal 5M run on treadmill.  Felt good and guilty.
